The concept of chirality can be difficult for students to visualize. Go Direct Polarimeter provides a visual representation of this concept by measuring the optical rotation of optical isomers such as sugars, amino acids, and proteins. The Go Direct Polarimeter is simple to use, includes free, downloadable experiments, and is supported by the free Vernier Instrumental Analysis® app.
Its unique vertical layout and lack of custom glassware make this polarimeter very student friendly. In addition, the analyzer is automatically rotated by an internal motor giving students more time to understand experiments such as the reaction kinetics of HCl and sucrose. The 589 nm LED makes it ideal for comparing optical rotation values to those in literature, allowing students to calculate specific rotation for sucrose, fructose, and other optically active samples. Students no longer have to determine the optical maximum with their eye—they now have a graph that shows a clear change in the light’s polarization.

The Super Capacitor Science Kit introduces students to the extraordinary storage and power potential of the super capacitor. Create energy from the hand crank and monitor energy storage with a charge level indicator. Then demonstrate the energy density and power of the super capacitor by running a small fan module. With super capacitors an integral part of the automotive revolution currently changing the way we think about transport, this is the ideal kit to explore the principles of high density energy storage.
- Discover the science behind capacitors and generators by using them to power simple electric circuits.
- Understand electric charge, electric current, and other physics concepts while using a generator to charge a capacitor.
Ideal as a battery replacement for a wide variety of basic electricity experiments, the hand crank generator is a low voltage power source that lets you create electrical current by simply turning a crank. This ingenious device generates student interest producing electrical energy through hands-on student effort. Student's enthusiasm is immediate, whether they are third graders lighting a bulb or college students reviewing sophisticated principles such as Ohm's Law or the electromagnetic properties of light. Made from a sturdy, see-through ABS resin with nylon-plastic gears and handle, the kit is designed to shrug off use and abuse. It produces approximately 200mA of usable current. It is capable of producing up to 6 volts. You can reverse polarity by simply cranking the handle in the opposite direction. And, when powered by another kit or low voltage power source, it acts as a motor.

The Go Direct Salinity Sensor easily and precisely measures the total dissolved salt content in an aqueous solution. You have the ability to measure temperature-compensated salinity or non-temperature-compensated salinity, along with temperature. Measure water with a wide variety of salinities, from brackish water to ocean water, and even hyper-saline environments. You can also study how salinity affects buoyancy or monitor salinity values in estuaries where freshwater mixes with ocean water.
It features a built-in temperature sensor to simultaneously read salinity and temperature. Automatic temperature compensation allows students to calibrate the probe in the lab and then make measurements outdoors without temperature changes affecting data. This temperature compensation can be turned off to perform salinity studies as a function of temperature.
